"Mark Morgan and Gaute Granli first met in Brooklyn in 2017.
The following year, Mark Morgan, on tour, shared a few dates in Norway with the aforementioned Gaute Granli.
Not having "hit it off", they say, during those few days of promiscuity, they decide in 2019 to mount a 50-day tour, just that, across Europe, to present their respective solo.
This is another experience... but still no fight as such; they then agree to create a band together. ' Fuck it, let's see what happens.'

A successful attempt at living together by two misanthropes? We find in Rump State Mark Morgan, who was the man behind the too unknown Sightings, a New York trio at the origin of an impressive noise rock of inventiveness, a band difficult to tame and probably too far ahead of its time. A few outstanding records, notably on Load Records, Daïs... and then leave; Mark Morgan has since officiated in Silk Purse with appearances on To Live and Shave in LA and collaborations with Aaron Dilloway, among others.

Gaute Granli is a member of Firmaet Forvoksen. From his native Norway, he distills a confusing and unidentified body of sound as a solo artist... perhaps a new music, a choppy, desolate pop... from the next century.

The two musicians share a guitar playing and a vocal approach of apparently destructured but well and truly chiseled. They produce a sound mass that we feel like drifting or inexorably carried away by quicksand...

L'année suivante, Mark Morgan, en tournée, partage quelques dates en Norvège avec le sus-cité Gaute Granli.
Ne s'étant pas "tapé dessus", disent-ils, durant ces quelques jours de promiscuité, ils décident en 2019 de monter une tournée de 50 jours, rien que ça, à travers l'Europe, pour présenter leur solo respectif.
Là, c'est une autre expérience... mais toujours pas de fight à proprement parler ; ils conviennent alors de créer un groupe ensemble.

Tentative fructueuse du vivre ensemble par deux misanthropes ?
On retrouve dans Rump State, Mark Morgan, qui était l’homme derrière le trop méconnu Sightings (Sonic Protest 2011) , trio New-Yorkais à l’origine d’un noise rock impressionnant d’inventivité, un groupe difficile à apprivoiser et sans doute trop en avance sur son temps.
Quelques disques marquants, notamment sur Load Records, Daïs… et puis s’en vont ; Mark Morgan a depuis officié dans Silk Purse avec des passages dans To Live and Shave in LA et des collaborations avec Aaron Dilloway, entre autres.
Gaute Granli est membre de Firmaet Forvoksen. De sa Norvège natale, il distille en solo un corpus sonore pour le moins déroutant et non identifié... peut-être une nouvelle musique, une pop hachée, désolée… survenue du siècle prochain.
Les deux musiciens partagent un jeu de guitare et une approche vocale d'apparence déstructurée mais bel et bien ciselées.
ils produisent une masse sonore que l'on ressent comme à la dérive ou emmenée inexorablement par des sables mouvants...
Attention : psychédélisme inconfortable et avant-garde totale."
